SOOTHSAYER2004, 13 Minutes3D Animation & Video
Synopsis: Prophecies of doom, disaster and political catastrophe envisioned by some of the world’s most famous psychics between the 1960’s the year 2001 are conjured up through 3D-animation, industrial films, text and historical footage -- the sum of which combine to form a visually stunning meditation on the forces that guide us into a dark, paranoid and uncertain future.
Soothsayer reconsiders yesterday’s daunting and sometimes whimsical predictions for the future after they’ve been outpaced by time. Background: I always wanted to do something with my collection of books written by famous psychics. The pages written by self-proclaimed super-natural clairvoyants like Jeanne Dixon and Doc Anderson read like pulpy sci-fi novels. Instead of predicting future technology or medical advancements, these books are filled with revelations of doom, disaster and tragedy. After Jeanne Dixon correctly predicted President Kennedy’s assassination, The Jeanne Dixon Effect became new phenomena: If a psychic made a hundred predictions and only one came true - it was undeniable proof of their other-worldly powers. Using 3D animation, found footage and industrial films, Soothsayer envisions some of these predictions and psychic phenomena in a contempory context plagued by terror alerts. Though many of these failed predictions are humorous, they become increasingly relevant to current political tensions and evoke the paranoid fears we all experience from life in an uncertain and unstable time.
